My First SSD
2012-04-18
Published:As you may recall (if you've read it at all), I had some trouble with using a USB flash drive for the operating system. Fortunately, we had an old 3.5" SATA-disk from 2004 which wasn't in use at work. I am using it for the operating system at the moment, and I can actually use the computer now…
I've also gotten my first SSD now, a 120GB one. Being used to 3.5" disks in desktop computers, it was a bit odd to install a 2.5". The size difference is quite large.
The SSD is going to be the main operating system disk, and so far I've given it two partitions and installed Windows 7 64bit Professional on it. I'm dual booting with Ubuntu 11.10 on the previously mentioned HDD, but at soon as Ubuntu 12.04 comes out I'm installing it on the second partition.
At the moment, the windows bootloader is installed on the SSD, while Grub is installed on the HDD. That means that currently, choosing which operating system to load means to choose which disk should boot. It's a bit of a hassle (especially since Windows is default for now), but I suppose I'll survive it, since it's only for a while anyway.
I'll probably use the old HDD for documents and miscellaneous stuff until I get a newer, larger HDD.
